Hyperconverged architecture (HCI) hardware requirements

The Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) deployment separates the control plane from the compute with storage services. This design improves performance, provides clearer resource isolation, and supports flexible scaling.

A hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) deployment requires a minimum of six nodes:

  • Control nodes: Three dedicated control noes that host control plane components.
  • Compute with storage nodes: Three or more nodes that provide both compute and storage services for the cluster.

Web Scale

The Web scale deployment is a disaggregated HCI (dHCI) architecture that separates cluster roles into dedicated control, compute, and storage nodes. This structure allows for higher scalability, better fault isolation, and optimized performance across specialized node types.

A web scale deployment requires a minimum of nine nodes:

  • Control nodes: Three dedicated control noes that host control plane components.
  • Compute nodes: Three or more nodes that provide only compute services for the cluster.
  • Storage nodes: Three or more nodes that provide storage services for the cluster.

To support higher density or specific storage requirements, you can optionally add compute with storage nodes that perform both roles within the cluster.
