# Create a new application image

> Learn how to create a new application image template from existing virtual machines (instances) images.

This page explains how to create a custom application image template from an existing virtual machine (instance).

In CubeCMP, application images are custom containers generated from an instance template. To make an application image available to users, you first create an instance, install the required packages and applications, and then commit the instance as an application image.

## Prerequisite {#prerequisite}

- A cloud-init enabled instance with the required applications preinstalled.
  For instructions on creating an instance, see [Create an instance (virtual machine)](../compute/launch-instance.md).

## Create a new custom application image template {#create-a-new-custom-application-image-template}

1. In the CubeCMP management console, go to the `Instances` page.
2. Locate the template instance that you want to turn into an application image. Click the More options (three dots) menu, and select **Commit to app image**.
3. Configure the application image settings.
   1. Enter a name in the **Image Name** field.
   2. Specify a **Tag** to identify the image version.
   3. (Optional) Enter a **Description**.
   4. Configure **Export Ports** to allow users access to the application after it is deployed as a container.
   5. Enable **SSH** if you want to allow SSH access for a specified user.
   6. Select a **Container Runtime** and provide a container name.
   7. Choose an **Image Icon**.
   8. To enable GPU resources on platforms with supported hardware, select the **GPU Enabled** option.
4. To save and create the application image, click **Commit**.
5. To monitor the creation status, go to **Applications** > **Images**.
   1. When the iamge creation is complete, the **Status** changes to **Available**. Users can then launch new applications from this image template.
