# Create router

> A router is a virtual networking device responsible for directing data traffic between different networks. It operates at Layer 3 and enables instances within project networks to communicate with external networks through routing and Network Address Translation (NAT).

A router is a virtual networking device responsible for directing data traffic between different networks. It operates at Layer 3 and enables instances within project networks to communicate with external networks through routing and Network Address Translation (NAT).

## Create a router bridging private network and external network {#create-a-router-bridging-private-network-and-external-network}

1. Navigate to `Project > Network > Routers` > `+ Create Router`

2. Name the router and check `Open Externel Gateway` checkbox.

3. Select desired `Externel Network`, then click `OK` to proceed.

4. Verify router creation by its status become `Activate`.

5. Hover to `More`, then click `Connect Subnet` at the drop down menu.

6. Select private network and its subnet. Click `OK` to proceed.

7. Verify router bridge setting by navigate to `Project > Network > Topology`
